The time has come... sooner than we planned. lol Hanna is bringing her bunnies up to my house on Sunday. :) They will be leaving for Tennessee soon. There are more rabbits than we planned too. I'll have more pictures of them all up on my site after they get here and we get everything set. I can't wait to see the woolies. <3 I'll also have lots of soft mini rex to cuddle. Babies too! Red ones! lol

Also, I re-designed the website. :) It's pretty cute! Much more feminine than usual. Here are some of the new graphics! And a link is below.

Current Breedings

Well... I tried to breed a few does in the colder weather (about 50 degrees). Everyone seemed kinda willing and it all went well. Didn't have as many problems with the does as I usually do. lol I took them all to the state 4-H show in hopes that the warmth of the building and the smell of other rabbits would put them does in the mood! Once I got back to my sisters house, I tried breeding them all. =P

1. The first pair I tried was Rising R's Pheonix and Polish Pride's Rose. She wouldn't lift, but I maneuvered her around and hopefully I'll get a litter! lol This was a black to broken chocolate pairing. DUE FEBRUARY 26TH!

2. The second pair was Pheonix again with Gondek's A2 (Alex). She didn't lift as usual, but same I did the same as with Rose, and fingers are crossed! That's a black to broken blue pairing. DUE FEBRUARY 28TH!

3. The third pair went the best! I bred Chai's GT3 (Gage) and Hoppy Days' Wuzzy. When I first tried to breed Wuzzy, she went insane! I call her the "crazy monkey rabbit" because she would jump up cling to the side of the cage! lol This time she was a good girl. She lifted no problem for Gage. This is a blue to broken black pairing. Wuzzy may carry dilute and I might get quite a few different colors here. They are both out of shadeds, so I'm interested to see what I get! Could be blacks, blues, blue torts, black torts... if I get a siamese sable or sable point I will literally leap for joy. lol DUE FEBRUARY 28TH!

4. This fourth pair was just... out of nowhere, really. I have a doe that is a few years old and has not been bred before because of reasons. lol The day we left for the 4-H show I put my hand in her cage to pet her and her butt went right up in the air! I laughed out loud and asked a few people their thoughts on breeding her afterwards. A few days after we returned home, she still really wanted to be bred, so I decided too breed her. I took out Otani and he set to work. I must say, it was the shortest time I've ever had to wait. lol No help needed! It was funny because she is quite a big doe (not so much fat, just a non-dwarf) and Otani is so little! Barely over two pounds! So little Breezy's Otani was bred to Thistledown's Milky Way. They are both chestnuts. I will be shocked if she has a litter, honestly. lol If she does bless me with a litter, I only hope she doesn't have any complications! I'll say some prayers for her. <3 I think she and Otani make a pretty nice pair and hopefully this corrects the problems I have with the light ring color! DUE MARCH 3RD!

Wish me luck!!! I really miss having lots of babies around here. The three little polish are doing well. :) Can't wait until March! I'll be showing them and trying to breed a few more rabbits.

I am finally charging for my services! I really enjoy designing and organizing websites. :) So I hope that I get more interest soon. I posted in a few places and have had four people express interest. I think two of them may be definite costumers. :) Its been hard to come up with prices! I think mine are reasonable, but it's all still a work in progress. As I get better I can definitely charge more.

Right now I am almost finished with two sites. One for my friend Lee Anna (DLS Rabbitry) and one for my mothers cake business (Strictly Sweets). I am also thinking of adding business card making to my list of services. I've had a few people ask. I made some for my mom and they came out cute. I will feature them on my website soon.

This post also leads me into another... College. I've never been a fan of school, but I've had a year off since I graduated high school. I'm finally getting bored! lol I will be starting online classes in the spring. I'm going to start with an undergraduate program for graphic design. I will then be able to use many Adobe programs like Photoshop and Illustrator. :) After that I'm going to work on getting a diploma for natural animal science. I'm excited but still pretty nervous! I hope I can finish them quickly... There's lots of other classes I want to take too. ;)I will post again when the graphic design page on my rabbitry site is finished.

That reminds me that I changed the sites layout the other day. It's a lot lighter and happier. The banner I made reminds me of water colors. I found two nice images to overlay. All the bunnies have new dandelion name tags too! I really like those for some reason. lol I'll be tweaking it probably, but do far I like it. The template is right from weebly, barely changed, but I enjoy it. I used it a long time ago. Glad to have it back.

4-H Show Results

I didn't really sell anything, but my mom did well. lol The rabbits did good though, so I'm grateful for that.

State 4-H Show

The Michigan State 4-H Show is this weekend! I think it might be my last 4-H show. I'm bringing my Rabbit Smarties sample book and selling some rabbit chewy toys I put together real quick. I'm praying I make a little money. I really need it! I am saving my whole $23 so I can buy a few things from the Planks who will be the equipment dealer there

An update on bunnysitting for Hanna (Bella's Rabbitry). The numbers have changed a little! I am now getting 11 rabbits. The new numbers are 7 mini rex, 2 holland lops, 1 pet mini lop and 1 pet mini rex. This is not counting the two woolies from her that I am being allowed to add into my breeding program. <3

The mini rex and hollands will be bred. So expect them to be on my sale page in the summer and fall of this year. If all goes as planned, I will have many more babies than I'm used too. lol

I'll be "bunnysitting" 15 of my friend Hanna's rabbits. She owns Bella's Rabbitry and breeds woolies, mini rex, new zealands and holland lops. That means I will have 2 jersey woolies, 9 mini rex and 2 holland lops. I'll also have her sister's pet mini lop and her brother's pet mini rex. They will be here in a few months! Hanna is trying to sell the rest of the rabbits I'm not taking. She specializes in red mini rex, but she has black and castors as well. She is selling all of the red new zealands too. Update on the BEW polish babies: I've named the biggest one that I've been calling "fatty". He is twice the size of the others except for one which is nearly as big as he is. His new name is Pillsbury. lol He opened one eye today! <3 I'll post new pictures in the next few days. :)

2012 Goals

The year of 2011, "the year of the rabbit", was cruel to me. I am so glad that it's over! I am hoping that 2012 will be much nicer to me and the rabbits. I finally got a new litter after 1 year and 8 months of trying to breed numerous rabbits. These babies are so dear to me and they are doing great. <3 Deja is being a good mom and all 6 of them are living in my bedroom!

With the new year comes new goals. So I made a list of some things I'd like to accomplish in the year of 2012.

1. Get more litters! After going dry for so long, I want this place full of babies! I was only averaging about 4 litters a year before the dry spell. I'd like to go up to 6-8 litters this year.

2. Win a BOB or BOS with a homegrown Jersey Wooly. I haven't done this in a while! My last big win was in November, 2010. I won BOS with Breezy's Kira. My no baby days started just before that, so I have not have any new homegrowns to show!

3. Have over 500 sweepstakes points. I barely get over 200 usually. I didn't go to a lot of shows or bring too many rabbits because of all the struggles 2011 threw at me. I'd like that to change! I am hoping to increase the size of my herd and make it to more shows with more entries.

4. Buy a rabbit shed! My rabbits live beside our garage... I'd love to have them in an actual building with proper heat and lights! I am hoping my parents will help me get a new shed for the rabbits to live in. Plus that would help free up the garage from my carriers and other supplies.

This is what I've come up with so far. I hope I get somewhere with them! Happy 2012 everyone. I hope you accomplish your 2012 goals as well. :)

BEW Baby Pictures

I took some more pictures of the BEW polish babies today. They have some cute white fuzz now! I can't wait until their eyes open! <3 Depending on what genders they are, Hayli Lane (Polish Pride Rabbitry) will be getting one or two of them. Then I will be keeping at least one... probably a doe. Hayli will be letting me use a buck of hers to get another litter if we can swap some rabbits. :) I'm excited for the future!

Hello rabbit world!!! I can't believe this is my only post in December so far! The month will be over in a week and this is the only post. lol There hasn't been a whole lot going on, but I can say a few things....

First, my chinchilla wooly buck (known by everyone as "Smoothie") passed away on the 11th. It was a mixture of the cold and some type of ailment that I just could not figure out. I brought him inside overnight where he stayed with Lulu to keep him company, and he passed away the next day in the afternoon.

Second, my BEW polish doe might be pregnant. If she is, then the due date would be the 26th. That might be my second post of December. lol We'll have to see about that...

Results/New Rabbits

I got some pictures of the new Polish yesterday. All of them are really cute and sweeties. <3 Can't wait to breed! Hopefully the BEW is already bred. If not, I get to use my VM buck! As for show results, there isn't anything really great to report. lol Wuzzy (broken black wooly doe) did pretty well, as well as Rose (broken chocolate polish doe).

This VM buck is from Silver Sox Rabbitry. He didn't have a name or tattoo. I named him Dipper! He's my favorite of all the new bunnies.

This is Polish Pride's Noah. He's a cute little black buck.

The new BEW doe who also was not named. I named her Deja. :) I think I'll use her once or twice then pet her out to live a wonderful retired life.

Last, but not least, this is Polish Pride's Rose. My favorite of all my Polish body type wise. Rose is a beautiful broken chocolate doe.

MSRBA Fall Show

The MSRBA is having its annual fall shows on November 26th and 27th. I'll be going for the double show on the 26th! I'm excited to be seeing my rabbit friends again. I am going down with Christi (KK's Lil Buns and Cavies) and Lee Anna (DLS Rabbitry). I'll be happy to see Hanna (Bella's Rabbitry) again too!

I'm not entirely sure who is going since anything can happen from now until next week, so I'll wait to post the list of who I'm showing. :)

On a side note, the snow is being weird... pouring from the sky, melting, repeating that pattern. lol I gave all the rabbits walls of straw anyway (literally built straw walls up the sides of the cages). They seemed very happy to have something to dig and burrow in... so if not for warmth, than a bit of fun instead.

My black otter doe (TLL's Lulu) is supposed to be due tomorrow. I haven't had babies here in over a year. I think she may be pregnant, but if this litter doesn't make it... or doesn't exist... I'm going to be a very sad lady. So I am hoping and honestly praying that I will have some beautiful little babies in that box tomorrow. It just started to snow so she is living in my room in a pet cage that she can't escape from.

On another (and totally bright) note, I am getting three new Polish this month! I'll be picking them up on the 26th at the MSRBA fall show in Lansing. With these three rabbits I'll be adding two new colors! I'm picking up another black buck, a broken chocolate doe... and... drumroll please...

...a BEW doe! I'm excited for the possibilities that BEW might create. lol I bet the VM's will be really cute! I am getting these rabbits from Hayli of Polish Pride Rabbitry. We will probably be trading and working together on the BEW project together. She shows in youth and I show in open. Below are some pictures that Hayli took for me. :)

A fresh new month! The leaves have pretty much all left the trees already... which scares me. Does that mean it's going to snow soon? I hate snow... I can stand it for about 3 months and then it's real old!

In happier and non-winter related news, I think TLL's Lulu may be expecting! She's due on November 11th. It will be her first litter and I am hoping for the best! I don't know if I will be trying for any winter litters yet.

I am also excited for the MSRBA fall shows on November 26th and 27th. Here is the flyer. I am hoping that the rabbits stay looking good. I think I will only be there on the first day. If I'm lucky I might buy a few more proven rabbits to really get my herd going again. :)

JW Guide - Part 2

Now on to part two of the 4 part guide! I already talked about the body in general and now I am going to be talking about the head and ears. Again, some photos are mine and others are from the NJWRC guide book.

Head Shape:

The head shall be set high and close to the shoulders. The head should be wide and short, beginning at the base of the ears, and carrying between the eyes to a well filled muzzle. Make sure it balances with the body. Woolies should have a wool cap (dense wool from the ear base forward) and side trimmings (longer fur along the jaw line).

FAULTS: Long or narrow head; pinched muzzle. Cut severely for lack of wool cap or side trimmings.

The photo below is illustrating some different head shapes you might find on your woolies. The first one is what you should aim for! Think "mug head"!

Here is a picture of TLL's Dirty Boy. He is my favorite head. lol

Look at that width between the eyes! He also has a nice fluffy wool cap and long side trimmings.

Wooly breeds often make up some terms that are widely accepted... I call this the "moose" head.

Here is another good head! This is on TLL's Lulu.

It's very rounded and she also doesn't have that wool cap!

Ears:

The ears are to be short and well furred and of good substance. They should be carried erect, but not necessarily touching. The tips of the ears should be slightly rounded. They should balance with the head. Ideal length is 2 ½ inches long.

FAULTS: Thin or poorly furred ears; poor ear carriage; scissoring.

DISQUALIFACTIONS: Ears over 3 inches long; tassels on ears.

I like these ears. Nice shape, short, thick, round tips.
They are also placed well on his head.

These ears are long and don't balance well. The ends are also pretty pointy.

They are also set a little far back on the head. When a wooly's ears are set so far back that they are resting on their back, that's bad. (Unless they are scared!)

On the good side, they are pretty thick and very well furred.

These are bad ears. See how they bend at the tips?

The tips have no substance, they just fold.

JW Guide - Part 1

4 Kings Rabbitry has inspired me to do this for blogtober. :) I'll be using pictures (my own) and drawings (from NJWRC guide) to show you examples to go along with the Jersey Wooly standard. I will post it in a few different parts. It's all a bit general to give you an idea.

Body:

The body is to be short and compact, with depth to approximately equal width. The shoulders are to be of nearly the same width as the hind quarters. The midsection is to be well filled. Hindquarters are to be full and well rounded. The top line is to rise in a gradual from just behind the ear base to a high point over the loin, then to fall in a smooth curve to the base of the tail.

FAULTS: Long or narrow body/midsection; narrow shoulders or hips; flatness over shoulder or hindquarters; pinched or undercut lower hindquarters; roughness over hips.

Feet & Legs:

Feet and legs are to be sturdy and straight. Front feet are to have normal fur below the ankle. Hind legs may carry wool below the hock.

The picture above shows the proper pose and proportions of the wooly. The image below just illustrates depth, length and width. This rabbit only needs a bit more width to his hindquarter to be that perfect round shape. He is just a bit pinched. You can see how he gets more narrow the closer you get to his tail. The plain red line shows the "top line". It's a nice smooth and gradual curve.

The images below illustrate a wooly that is long in body. You should be able to see that length to a rabbits' midsection or shoulders when you pose it properly.

Another rabbit, some length to the body, but a very solid and wide body.

I can except a bit of length on her as a brood doe.

I added this image to show a rabbit that is "low" in the shoulders.

Can you see that dip right behind the head? It's quite a deep dip.

Remember this line?: The top line is to rise in a gradual from just behind the ear base...

I want to shrink up that space and get rid of that dip!

Tips:

· You should be able to stick at least two fingers between the shoulder blades. Not more than three and no less than two.

· Look at the straightness of the hocks and the distance between them. They should be as straight as possible and as far apart as possible.

· The lower the pin bones are set on the hindquarters, the fuller and better the hindquarters will be. The pin bones should be set fairly far apart too.

Blogtober?

Kristina of Fuzzy Patch Rabbitry in Florida has been mentioning Blogtober recently. I guess you're supposed to blog everyday in October? I can't imagine doing that! But I will try to post much more than I usually do. For my first post I'd like to share a goofy Halloween picture that I posted on the Rabbit Addict forum of Smoothie. He's so cute... and slightly demonic looking in this picture. I gave him crazy red vampire eyes. :)

Do you like my props? I got some at the Dollar Tree! Others were just lying around the house. I finally broke down and bought the neutral backdrop (fabric from Walmart). I'm trying to save as much money as possible... if you didn't notice. lol

Actual bunny wise, I tried breeding Lulu and Dirty Boy the other day. Hoping and praying for babies! I think it would be a great litter to break this horrible kit-less streak I've been experiencing for over a year now! Well, that ends my first Blogtober post, I'll be back. ;)

Cavies!

Well, I'll be getting a teddy cavy in about a month or so. I'm so excited! It's a boar and he's a silver agouti. My friend is buying him for me because I fell in love with the silver agouti and white sow she just bought from the same person mine is coming from. I LOVE TEDDIES. There is a boy in my 4-H club that breeds them and I always try to steal them when he brings them to meetings. His mom yells, "Check her pockets!" Hahaha! They are just so cute... especially as babies!

I might start breeding and showing some cavies too. Me and four other friends would all have teddy cavies and would be showing and breeding. I even came up with a caviary name already... Teddy Patch Caviary! :) This is something fun and small since my bunny numbers are waaaaay down. It's exciting to get into something new.

Never give up hope... that's what I keep thinking as I move out rabbits... I said goodbye to 3 pet rabbits of mine to make room for quality rabbits that I can breed and show. It's so hard once you get attached! But it's for the best... I can't afford to keep feeding rabbits that I can't do anything with. I am soon moving on 3 more. I am down to about 16 rabbits right now, and soon to be even lower. I'd say it's been about 2 years at least since I've been even close to that. I'm used to having about 25 rabbits.

For breeding/showing stock I am down to 4 bucks and 3 does (woolies) and 2 bucks and 2 does (polish). Sometime soon I am hoping to get just a couple more and will be done with my new herd. I am ever hopefull that I will get a litter of babies... it's been since April 30th, 2010. Yeah... long time!

I will be breeding Lulu (black otter) and Moosey (siamese sable) soon after Moose gets here. I am hoping to get a sable marten from this! I'm excited to be working with some cool colors. I will also try to breed Dirty Boy (black) with Wuzzy (broken black). As for polish, both Alex (brkn blue) and Louise (brkn black) will probably be bred to Pheonix (black). That's all for now and we'll see how it goes! I'll be hoping and praying....

It has been freezing! I bet the rabbits love it though... little boogers. Its been about 45 at night and in the mid 60s during the day. My house is like an icebox! Again, a reminder that winter is right around the corner! BLAH!

The leaves are starting to change and it inspired me to change the blogs layout. You like? I have been wanting to change up the website just a little to, but I can't think of what to do... Weebly is supposed to be adding some more layouts that I am dying to try. What's taking them so long?!

As for the bunny boos, all are doing fine. The skinny or sick ones are all gaining weight and looking good. I do have two that seem to have some blockage in the belly, but I am tryng to get them unclogged with a few things. Fingers crossed for my little bucks! Not a whole ton going on... the weather is cold and I was hoping to get some does bred, but we shall see...

End Year 5 & 8

So the end of 2011 is already sneaking up on us... almost September! I will be turning 19 on the 4th and will be showing in open with my mom. So I'll end the "rabbitry year" then. lol Kind of like a school year. The rabbits have had much better years... and so have I. So I really hope that 2012 brings better things for us! My first official open show will be the White Tails show. I did show open in Mason just to try it out, but this next one will be the official one. =P

The dreaded winter is coming in a few months... I am trying not to think about it, but I'm finding it very difficult! We are probably going to do a huge rabbitry overhaul before the show falls, which is also rather exciting. I'm hoping everything works out... Perhaps I will be blogging again next before another month passes. ;)

Before I forget, the NJWRC sweeps have ended! I am 7th for District 8 and 30th Youth Overall. Also, Breezy's Kira was 67th for Rabbit of the Year. Decient for not going to many shows. lol The fair just passed as well. I got Reserve Champion for senior showmanship and my rabbit project book got Best of Show. Good way to end my 4-H years....

Ok. It's been a month! Still a long time though, eh? The reason I'm not blogging is becasue nothing is going on! I'm still not getting babies! I do have two rabbits on hold for me though. They are from Hoppy Days Rabbitry. Sadly my friend Cassidy is selling out. :( She wants to focus on life right now and I can't blame her. lol So, sometime in the future Hartman's Moosey and his daughter, Hoppy Days' Wuzzy, will be joining my herd. That makes me happy... and another good thing is that Furry Treasure's Gem (owned by Hanna Tedlock of Bella's rabbitry, is pregnant and due any day now. She was bred to TLL's Dirty Boy and I've been promised one out of the litter. Until anything awesome happens, I bid you fair winds.

First off, I went to the double show in Mason today with my mom. I picked up a new wooly buck, a new polish buck and a 3 hole hanging cage with a pan. I only took two rabbits to show and scratched one. lol I showed open and my doe (TLL's Lulu, black otter) won BOS in the first show. Pretty cool! Here are some pictures of the two new men:

Well... I finally graduated high school last week! I have some free time and most of it is being directed towards the rabbits in my life. lol I updated the site today with some new planned litters and I hope that two of my does will be having babies for me this month and next month. For the planned litters, I will be teaming up with two friends of mine that are fellow Jersey Wooly breeders.

The first breeding will be my black buck TLL's Dirty Boy to my friend Hanna's (Bella's Rabbitry) TWO does. They are a blue doe, Furry Treasures' Gem and a broken black otter, Furry Treasures' Yahtzee. They will be bred on June 25th while we are in Mason.

The next teaming up will be my otter doe TLL's Lulu and my friend Cassidy's (Hoppy Days Rabbitry) siamese sable buck, Hartman's Moosey. In September, TLL's Dirty Boy will be bred to Cassidy's doe Hoppy Days' Saria, who is a blue.

Northern Breeze Rabbitry is proud to welcome two new rabbits to the herd! I picked up my new bunnies on Saturday while in Midland. :) Secret Trails Rabbitry is also welcoming a new rabbit.

This handsome moose head is TLL's Dirty Boy. I call him Axe or DB. He is my new herd buck! Can't wait to get that big head on some babies.

Cleaning & Worming

This weekend I cleaned 4 cages and emptied 2 pans... I was so hot and tired I left the 2 cages for later. lol I still have quite a bit left and I am just dreading it. It's either humid and gross outside or raining! I just want like two perfect days when it's 70 degrees, not humid, with a nice breeze. Sounds like heaven! Most of the poo under the cages has been taken away. So that's good anyway... but the lab stacker inside the garage is awful and is a pain in the butt to clean. I will probably just pick one day to concentrate on that cage alone.

Besides cleaning, I wormed most of the rabbits yesterday as a preventative and also had a friend give the two mysterious VD does their pen-g injections. So hopefully I'll see some improvement in them.

I payed for the new logo today! So here it is! Julie Cahill of Oak Ridge Rabbitry in PA made it for me. It's features Breezy's Kira and Gondek's Alex, who can both be seen on my website. Our Future & Smarties

Ah, yes. My first post after the dreadful hiatus post... and it's loooooooooong... but important!

Northern Breeze Rabbitry is still on a small hiatus while I rebuild the herd and fix up the rabbitry. After an insane rush of illness into the rabbitry (as well as the death of my beloved Jetta), I lost some rabbits that were a great asset to my color projects and very dear to my heart... I was and still am very stressed about the whole thing. Because of all this, many planned litters that I was very excited about were cancelled. Jetta was supposed to be due in just two days now... so I will have to wait more than a month for another litter... and they will be polish. There is nothing wrong with my adorable polish, but I really want and need some wooly babies. They are, after all, my HEART breed. With the birth of those polish (hopefully) the terrible barren rabbitry will turn back into a fruitfull one again. A year is a long time to go without babies... it's been way to long.

Smoothie and Kira are still up for a date. Probably at the end of May. I've slowly been getting over all the things that have been happening. I suppose everyone goes through a rough patch. So the little hiatus for Northern Breeze Rabbitry will be over on the day they are bred. So expect a small celebration. lol

Secret Trails Rabbitry (polish co own project) was never on a hiatus because Parker would not let it be so. To get them off my mind and to get them bred, my amazing little girls (Alex and Louise) were sent to live with him for a while. Louise will be bred to a broken black buck of the Spivey family at his house and Alex will be bred to Tiffany McCord's black buck, Rustic's Martin, at the show in Ionia. So we are expecting some blacks, blues and brokens of both for sure.

Another thing I'd like to talk about is the Rabbit Smarties books by Ellyn Eddy. I am now a selling partner so you can buy her books from me on my rabbitry website or at rabbit shows by using a paper order form. I'll be using most, if not all, of the money to spend on updating my rabbitry. So any purchases are appreciated by me and also by Ellyn. lol I made a page just for them on my site and you can view it here. It will tell you everything there.

Hiatus

Today we lost Jetta... she managed to escape her bin in my bedroom around the same time my dog went upstairs to follow my dad. While my dad was in another room, she found Jetta on the floor in my bedroom and somehow killed her... Jetta was very pregnant and due in only 10 days...

As most people know, we haven't had a litter of babies since April 30th, 2010. I wanted these babies...NEEDED these babies. I live for my rabbits, and not getting any litters has been breaking my heart. I love raising babies here. This has been an extremely hard year for me already. I'm not sure what I will be doing now, but don't expect a lot of updates. I need to heal... I was sobbing like I lost my own mother today. I just can't believe it.
After talking to my polish partner in crime, the show must go on. We will be trying to breed our two does next month. I might try the woolies at the end of May if I and they feel up to it.

Babies: But a Dream

This rabbitry hasn't seen a nice live litter of babies since April 30th, 2010. That means an entire year will have passed by the end of this month. I almost can't believe it... I mean, I barely have any litters anyway!

I was overjoyed a couple months ago when I bred my polish doe and got a new bred otter doe. The polish doe did not even take and the otter, although very pregnant with 6 babies, lost the entire litter after being in labor for over 24 hours.

That just broke my heart... I was so excited that I wouldn't be passing the one year mark, but obviously that didn't happen. I have a new breed and haven't even gotten a litter yet! My doe won't be bred again until maybe the end of May! I might just break down and breed my other doe to a friends buck... I need something to work with here!

On a slightly brighter note, the otter doe is eating like a fat piglet and seems to be gaining lots of weight in her big round belly. I didn't want to get my hopes up, but I want these babies so bad it hurts. She is due on May 3rd and I'm praying that the labor goes better for her and that she will care for her babies properly.

At this point, baby rabbits seem like some distant dream I had once...

Spring Cleaning

Well I started "spring cleaning" yesterday...even though it looks NOTHING like spring out there. Quite a bit of snow is still on the ground and it's a little icy as well. I almost fell a few times. lol It took me what seemed like ages, and I only got 4 cages partially cleaned! Only 24 more to go! GAH! My dad is going to use the blow torch today... we'll be getting lots of hair off the cages. Everyone will be going into carriers and boxes. That should be tons of fun

I'm hoping that with this cleaning, the health of my rabbits will be back in order. Some of you know about the issues I've been having recently. Hopefully the bleach does it's job! Certain rabbits will be quarantined and others will have to go. :-( Breaks my heart... I finally had something going and I've NEVER had any issues with the health of my rabbits until this winter. It wasn't even just one thing either! It was about 4 different things at once. When it hits, it hits really hard. I can't thank the Usakowski family enough for helping me hold on during my troubles... I owe them a lot.

Once the cages are clean, all the rabbits will be re-arranged and put in a certain order by color group hopefully. lol I'm trying my best to get organized here. When the rabbits are situated, I will finally be breeding my does. Jetta will be bred to Hot Shot in Evart this weekend. When I come home I will hopefully be able to get Kira bred to Smooth Talker and Blue Belle bred to Peak. My polish doe will have to wait until May I believe. That's when I'll see Tiffany next.

So much going on! I am so excited for Spring Break, you just don't even know. I 'd love to say that I'm getting a break... but I will be doing more cleaning and I'm working ranch camp at a friend's horse ranch for the 4-H Spring Extravaganza, and also helping my mom and club do something for that week as well.

I feel the need to offer a shout-out to two of my friends with birthdays today. So happy 18th to Lindsay and happy 24th to Bobby. :-) Have a wonderful daaaayyyy!

Today I went out to feed and found my sweet little Percy dead. He was going to be 7 years old in a few months and he was my first jersey wooly. I got him when he was a few months old... I owe this rabbitry to him. He got me started with the best breed there is! His dedication page was completed today.

A Barren Rabbitry...

Those of you who keep track of me know that I haven't had a litter of babies since April of last year... so in a few weeks it will be an entire YEAR since I've had babies in the rabbitry. Jetta had a lot of complications while delivering and lost the entire litter of 6. We will be re-breeding her in April to TLL's Ladies Man from Three Little Ladies Rabbitry. Also, my polish doe Alex was due on the 15th, but I was questioning her pregnancy even after I thought I felt a baby while palpating her. Sure enough, it's the 16th and she shows no signs of giving birth. I will also be re-breeding her to Rustic's Martin from Rustic Rabbity. Since those litters won't be due until May, I will be breeding some more wooly does to hopefully make up for this lack of babies... BUT by the time they are born, it still will be more than a year since I've gotten a litter.

Totally crazy...to me anyway... I'll be breeding TLL's Smooth Talker to Breezy's Kira and Breezy's Otani to Thistledown's Milky Way. My lovely little Kira is a pretty reliable mommy, but Milky Way didn't take last time I tried to breed her, so we'll see. Both does are ready to be bred and now that the weather is warmer I am hoping that the bucks will be too.

Spring Litters

It's still been freezing outside and even the occasional light snow will fall... but I am still hopeful that spring will come soon... I miss the flowers and all the green grass! So when the weather is warmer and the bucks are ready, I have plenty of does that really want to be bred. lol

I already have two litters on the way. Both should have babies within the week I hope. They will be moved into the house today since the garage is still freezing too. They'll have to live in big Rubbermaid bins for a while! I'm sure they will just appreciate the warmth of the house.

Previously planned litters have been changed a little though. I still plan on breeding Breezy's Kira (black dilute carrier) to TLL's Smooth Talker (chinchilla dilute carrier). Excited for some new colors! One pairing that I changed was Thistledown's Milky Way and Thistledown's Chance. Instead I will be breeding Milky Way (chestnut) to my buck Breezy's Otani (chestnut). I also have the new little blue doe (TLL's Blue Belle) and I may be breeding her to Furry Treasure's Peak (chesnut dilute carrier).

So we shall see! Already planning way more litters than I'm used to, but hopefully it will all work out for me I'm so excited for the rest of this year! Just hoping that it turns out the way I invisioned. lol

EDIT: Jetta had complications with the birth, so the kits didn't survive. We'll be trying again soon!

Results, Rabbits & News!

Just got back from the MSRBA Convention yesterday. :) I only brought 3 rabbits to show and two that I had to sell. The two sale rabbits went within 5 minutes of each other! lol The only placings worth talking about are my 2nd and 3rd place out of 7 self senior does with Breezy's Yoshi and Breezy's Kira on Saturday. Besides rabbits, I got to help sort cards and hand out ribbons too.

As for the otters, there was an accident! Not really a bad one though! My doe Jetta was somehow bred to her broken otter brother. lol Either way I'll have some babies! So brokens and otters will me making their debut in the rabbitry soon. Both Jetta and Alex have nest boxes in now.

More cool news! I bought a rabbit at the auction to benefit 4-H. So now I have a blue doe named Blue Bell with all COLORED toenails to work with! Yay! Just waiting on her new senior coat, as well as Jetta's. To add on to cool news, my mom decided to join up with me once I start showing in Open! So the woolies and polish will be a mother daughter team by the end of September this year!

I think that's all now. lol The website have been updated with the new rabbits info and litters and all that. Start praying for spring in Michigan folks! I need to get more does bred!

Otters and More!

Thanks (again and again) to Three Little Ladies Rabbitry, I am going to get my start in otter woolies! I can't thank the Usakowski family enough. They have really helped me along in the wooly world, and I need to pay close attention to their advice! lol I'm so very thankful to their family, they are such great people.

At the MSRBA Convention this weekend I'll be picking up an otter doe bred to TLL's Hot Shot! So hopefully I'll have some more babies here! I'm hoping that with the many dilute carriers that I now posses, we'll be able to get some blue otters eventually as well! With that polish litter coming near the 15th (thanks Tiffany!), I'll really be on my way in a new color group project with the woolies and my new breed. The tan group will take longer to show now guys! lol I promise that I won't trek any where near shaded rabbits (as much as sable martens please me). I would love to see more kids showing in that group though! There are some beautiful colors there.

Also, I will be picking up a friend of mine, Cassidy of Hoppy Days Rabbitry, so she can join us at the MSRBA Convention. She'll be bringing her Himalayans! On Friday we'll be there to drop off rabbits and get settled in our spot in the showroom. On Saturday it will be busy, busy! I'll be helping Jessica Usakowski at the entry table with Parker and Cassidy. She's a busy girl and everyone needs help sometimes! lol I think we have our work cut out for us. So when you come to collect your youth ribbons later on in the day, say hello to me! ;) Sunday should be toned down a bit... I'll be going over all the rabbits and hopefully selling a few and deciding who else is going to make babies this year!

Babies! Food? Convention!

My polish doe "Alexander the Doe"...aka Gondek's A2... (lol) was bred to Rustic's Martin on February 12th! Just palpated her today and I'm pretty sure I felt a baby in there! I'm so EXCITED! I'm expecting the babies around March 15th!

I also plan on breeding Kira and Smooth Talker. Our first chinchilla babies will hopefully come from that pair! I might breed Yoshi as well... just have to decide which buck! Then I plan on getting another doe from the amazing Usakowski family. :-) I'll be dabbling in otters! Cathie always told me they'd go well with my chestnuts. lol So I finally gave in! Now I'm just waiting for a nice available doe.

As for food, we are switching from Purina to another brand. I just bought a bag of PenPals today! All of them seem to be eating it...so hopefully they keep eating it and it works well. If not, I may have to go way back in time to Manna Pro!

The MSRBA convention is right around the corner! I'll be heading down with my mom on Friday afternoon. Dad can't come this year because he has to work. But to help make up for it, Parker and Garrett Thompson (aka my "brothers") will be there with their dad, Mark! We will be showing on Saturday AND Sunday. I'll be doing the jersey wooly specialty show on Sunday as well as the all breed show. The Thompson's and us will be staying at the Candlewood in rooms next to each other. Maybe I'll see you there! ;)

Fresh and New

All is fresh and new! As the snow melts and the earth looks new, so does our home on the web. The blog recently got a new layout and now the website has gotten one too!

I thought that with some new priorities in the rabbitry I would change up the layout on my site again. So the color scheme is now mostly blue with a tiny bit green and light brown. The banner has two different images of dandelions that I overlayed and faded together.

I like the dandelion idea because when a good breeze blows through, all the little poofs fly of their dandelion. So it goes nicely with Northern Breeze Rabbitry... I think I'm gonna run with that and keep it going from now on. I need to make new business cards too... good thing I have a 4 day weekend.

Not What I Planned...

The winter seems to be in it's prime... the weather is freezing and it's as windy as ever! I am praying for an early spring! I can't wait to see the grass and flowers again. With the spring, new things are happening in the rabbitry... it's not at all what I planned.

Because of my lack of space for the rabbits and not to mention the lack of funds to feed them, I am selling out of my small herd of Thriantas. It really hurts actually... I love them so much, but they eat the most and take the longest to grow out. I am selling Blaise for sure, but I can't decide on who to keep as a pet from the other 3 does. I just have to keep one or two. I can't imagine not having at least one with me right now. I love them to death! If I don't bring them to the upcoming 4-H show in Clare or the one in Mt. Pleasant, they will for sure be for sale at the MSRBA Convention in March.

So this isn't at all what I planned for the new year, but I think it's for the best right now. It will make room for the woolies and polish to grow out. I've already changed up the website so they aren't featured anymore...

Rabbitry Resolutions

First off... 2011, year of the rabbit. Heck yes! Now on to the point of the post! lol Somebody on the fabulous RH forum made a thread about New Years rabbitry resolutions. So I thought I would share the few I posted and more that I came up with . :)

Have more than 3 litters this year!
Win another BOS or BOB...or a few more! Any breed.
Promote the Thriantas more.
Get rollin' with my pointed whites and blues in the Woolies.
Keep cages cleaner! I hate cleaning, but I must!
Attend the ARBA national convention in Indiana.
Cull harder and keep only my best.
Rearrange my cages and get them set up nicer.
Be more organized and stop losing my grooming supplies!
Get top 40 in national and top 15 in district JW sweeps. (Was #51 and #19 this time)

That's all I could think of so far... but I'm sure there are more goals I have. lol What are your goals?

Winter Time

Nothing much goes on in the dreaded winter of nothern Michigan. So the site and blog will seem a little dead until around February and March. Hopefully I can get in some breedings and go to some shows.

MSRBA Fall Show

Had a good show today! I could only afford the double show today and had to miss out on the 3rd show tomorrow. My favorite win was getting BOSG both shows with Breezy's Kira (self sr. doe) and she ended up winning BOS the 2nd show! Some legs for her today! I also got to write for the Polish during the 2nd show. Todd Naragon had a judge in training. He did very well and I enjoyed writing for them, but they were fast! My brain hurt after a while... hand too... lots of bunnies! XD

Late Fall & Winter Plans

It's starting to get really cold now! It's even snowed a few times already. I am absolutely dreading the day when the snow falls and stays on the ground. I HATE WINTER. I tried breeding one of my does in the early fall, but I got nothing. :-( So now I have to wait until March to start breeding again. Then I will be breeding 3 does for sure. One will be the same chestnut doe to a broken chesnut (this will be Thistledown's Milky Way and Thistledown's Take a Chance on Me), another is my blue pointed doe to a black that carries pointed (Breezy's Frost and Rose Meadow's Destin) I am going to be getting lots of pointed whites finally! The last one will be my broken blue polish doe to a broken black (Gondek's A2 "Alexander the Doe" and the buck is from a friend). It should hopefully be my first live polish litter. I'm terribly sad that I have to wait that long, but the winter will be bad enough with the 30 rabbits that I have already.

On a brighter note, I am excited for the MSRBA fall triple show! This will be my first year attending it. I'm assuming it will be just as fun as the spring convention. :-) This is at the end of November so I'm sure the weather will be terrific...bleh! My mom and I will only be going for the double show on Saturday because we won't be able to afford the entry fee for the 3rd show or a hotel room. But nonetheless, still excited to be able to finally get there. Dad might be coming... not sure if he has to work or not!

I will finally be able to meet Hanna of Bella's Rabbitry and pick up little Jasper! I'll be seeing Cassidy of Hoppy Days Rabbitry, Misty of Evie's Tulips Rabbitry, Parker and Garrett of Broken T Rabbitry and all the Usakowski's of Three Little Ladies Rabbity again as well. Always a pleasure to see my favorite rabbit buddies! :-) Never a dull moment with any of these guys. lol

Hopefully I can sell some rabbits too...I really need to get my numbers down for the winter. I'm going through to much food too. These guys are gonna put me in the poor house! =P

Updates & Fall Pictures

The leaves are changing way to quickly! I am just waiting for it to snow now. BLEH! I really do hate the snow...and the way the rabbits are set up right now is definately not snow friendly! I did a little revamping to the website this week. I've changed the set up for all the bucks and does links for the main rabbitry. The polish rabbitry still has it's own section. I changed up the layout of some pages too. Check out the new About Us page and the new Nursery page. The information about all the breeds now have their own main page in the navigation as well. I think I will be keep it this way for a while.

As for breedings and juniors, I have a litter of woolies due on October 20th (expecting blacks, chestnuts and brokens). My wooly and thrianta juniors from April are turning out great! I was disapointed to discover that my blue buck has one white toenail...that really killed me! I was so excited about him and I am still comtemplating wether or not I want to use him... he's just so promising! Besides that issue, I really like how everyone is coming along and I can't wait to get them to more shows.

Color wise, I am really trying to get more pointed whites going, but my buck is not wanting to breed with my PW doe...and I really don't want to use anybody else. I've been trying everyday and I hope I can get that done before it gets really cold out. Wish me luck! ;)

Well...the summer went well, but as the leaves began to change colors, problems also began! So this blog post will be dedicated to the issues of the fall and how I am trying to over come them. lol

The first problem actually started about a month ago. My black doe (Brandy) started to lose all her fur, which I thought of as normal since everyone was molting very bad. Soon though, she was 80% bald and losing weight! I attached the losing weight to her always dumping her food and water recently, so I re-arragned some dishes and added lots of oats to her pellets. She FINALLY has wool growing back and her weight is getting better. I still don't really know what the issue was for sure, but I'm just glad that she is getting wool back in time for the cold weather! I am thinking that she maybe didn't like the 18% protein food. I guess it's a bit much for them... Destin also started losing weight and is a skinny boy too, which leads me to the next story...

This second story deals with the condition of my rabbits this past month. I switched all the bunnies to 18% protein feed because 1. they all needed to molt like something fierce and 2. the feed store kept running out of the feed that I oringally wanted to use. So they have been eating it and I do love Purina, but like I said before, the high percentage might just be too much for them and they don't like it so much anymore. All of them have lost condition. They feel terrible! So many of them won't be ready for the show this weekend, but I am slowly switching them back to the 16% by mixing them together and they are all eating oats as well.

Third story is that Onyx stopped eating all together and he is skin and bones. I have been trying to bribe him with oats (then he would only eat the oats and not the pellets) and apples and bananas. Since I have been mixing the pellets with the different protein he has been nibbling a bit more. Still not all of them like he used to, but he's getting better. I'm hoping that he will get better soon. He's such a nice rabbit so it would be a shame to lose him. I might try to give him some yogert and other things soon. All this not eating and molting made me think that wool block could be an issue...I've just been to busy to search for the papya tablets. I might just have to get my mom to drive me to all the pet stores to look. I should really keep some around all the time!

So I don't know why all of my black rabbits have been having so many issues lately, but they are slowly getting better and I hope they all get 100% better sooooon! I am also praying that I can get to some fall shows! I need to pick up a few more bucks too... and show all my new Polish! I have a litter of Polish due on the 20th! Yay!

A Good Summer

School has just started and sadly the summer is now over. It's been a good summer though at least! The fair went pretty well this year. I sold a lot of rabbits this summer and I brought in some great rabbits too. =) My websites have all been doing well and I've made some good friends! I have some nice looking juniors and I'm excited for upcoming shows. (Ionia & Gaylord.) I am thinking these two might be my last for the year. I also have a litter of Polish due on September 20th! I can't wait!

Anyways, it's been pretty good and I hope your summers have been good too!

New Polish & Wooly!

The show today seemed to last forever! My legs and feet are killing me! I cam home with 6 Polish and 1 Wooly. Parker and his dad gave me an 8 hole cage and bought new feeders for them too. :-)

The new chin wooly is ADORABLE. I'm very happy with him and I plan on giving him lots of love. lol Thanks Jessica! (Three Little Ladies Rabbitry) ;)

As for Polish:

I have 4 does and 2 bucks. I like 3 of the does and 1 of the bucks. I think I will be selling the other doe and buck as pets.The ones I like are a senior blue doe, a junior broken blue doe, and a junior broken black doe. Then the broken blue sr. buck.
I'm gonna sell the two I'm not crazy about and save up some more money to buy a nice black buck. We bred the blue doe and the broken blue buck... she wanted to be bred BAAAAAAD. So I should have my first litter next month. I'll be showing the others in September at the show in Ionia and then the show here in Gaylord.
I will post pictures in the next couple days probably. Fair is tomorrow, so I dont have the time right now. lol Soon though...

Show, Fair & Such

Well the 21st is fast approching! That means new bunnies for me! The chinchilla wooly buck should be coming home with me along with 4 polish does. Three broken blacks and 1 broken blue. I might just tell Parker that I only want two of the does. lol I really don't have the space for all of them. =P

Cassidy (Hoppy Days Rabbitry) is allowed to come with us to the show on the 21st too! She will be picking up her new himalayans there! I'm excited to see them too. =) They looked very cute in the pictures that I got to see.

Fair is also fast approching! All my entries have to be in by Sunday the 22nd and we show the rabbits on Monday! None of the woolies have any wool...it's absolutely dreadful... I am hoping that with another brushing and the rest of the week left, that they will at least get all the dead fur out. =( I also have to help set up the fair for the rest of the week as well. They need help with a lot of stuff over there. Then barn duty and the 4-H icecream booth for the rest of fair week. I'm going to be dead by the end of it. lol

Have a wonderful rest of the summer! I am not excited for school to start again! Thank God that it's my senior year!

Chinchilla!

Yay! I am hopefully going to be picking up a chinchilla wooy buck at a show on August 21st! He is coming from Three Little Ladies Rabbitry here in Michigan! I'm so excited for my first TLL wooly! lol I am just a big fan of their rabbits and I love their family. :-) Anyways, he is out of Erb's Opie and Sugar Creek's Lil' Chin. I am just so excited to be adding chinchilla to my rabbtiry as well as getting a bunny from some amazing lines! So thanks so much to Jessica Usakowski and also Parker Thompson for being an amazing friend and buying him for me since I am really broke. XD He would also be my transportation to the show to pick him up! Hahaha! We worked out a deal though! lol So we're cool!

I'm bursting with excitement! Hopefully I don't explode. ;) lol

Random Summer Update

Well, it's been a little while since I posted last. So I guess I will just do a little random summer update today. I have some pictures of the woolies in their uglies. lol They are starting to pose on their own now. =) Their hair is flying all over the place and Yoshi (black doe) is looking hideous! Polish

Just what I need...Polish! Parker was practically begging to partner up with me, so Polish it is! So now Northern Breeze Rabbitry will finally be up to 3 breeds.

Happy 18th Birthday to me I suppose. At least Park offered to pay for our starter stock and he said he would give me 8 cages to work with. I hate being a poor 17 year old. It really sucks. I am very accepting of free gifts though. lol I need a job and a gosh darn rabbit shed... roar! My dad needs to get to work! Life would be so much easier with a rabbit shed in the yard. He might get a little mad when I move some into the garage, but it's his own fault! ;)

So anyways, Polish in black, blue, broken black and blue, and rew. Gonna try to keep it small scale. Might have to cut down on the woolies even more now! Might have to cut out my pointed whites... poo. I added the pages for the Polish on my website. Just the basics, as I won't be getting any until September.

Summer Plans

Well...this is going to be a busy summer. I am leaving to go to the 4-H Exploration Days at MSU next week. I'll be gone for 4 days. Then I am hoping to be able to catch the last day of the Big Ticket Festival the next morning. Fair is at the end of August, then my 18th birthday on September 4th! I also have a rabbit show on September 17th here in Gaylord. I'll have 5 junior woolies and 5 junior thriantas to show! Weeeee! I'm really excited to get judges opinions on them!

My dad hasn't gotten around to starting the building process for the new bunny shed yet...it is VERY needed, but we can't afford the wood that it will take to cover it right now. That really sucks! I've been dying for this shed! It will be so much easier to keep up with. I hate having them all outdoors! It will also be conveinent to be able to store all of my bunny stuff in one spot.

I also have to plan some late summer/early fall litters. This is tough... I really want to use my REW buck Chickadee, but I can't decide which doe... he is either black or siamese sable under that white coat...and I only have his mother (bad match), a black doe (a neice, but an iffy match) and then some amazing little agouti does coming along right now... BUT if he is a SS under the white...that might turn out terrible...I don't have the space to risk shagouti babies!

I also would like to breed Chick's older sister and she is a REW as well (Breezy's Emo). She is a black underneath the white. My first choice would have been my chesnut buck, but she is a rather large doe and I don't want to risk have all larger babies. I have a tiny, tiny tort otter buck that I think might be a better match to get smaller babies. He has given me black otters when bred to a black, so I am thinking that I am either going to get torts or otters from this pair.... I don't breed EITHER of these groups! Hahaha! But she gets way nasty when she wants to be bred and my hand is badly bruised from her killer teeth...so I am sick of that!

Rabbit Achievement Day

We had our first annual Otsego County Rabbit Achievement Day! lol It was really small as it was kind of a practice run. We are opening up to other counties next year since we have a better idea of how we should do it. (Me and my mom organized it. We are on the 4-H council Woot!) Tony Parker judged our rabbits and his wife Crytal judged our project books. Cathie came too! She did a breed ID contest for us. It was harder than I thought! I brought 4 bucks and 1 doe for woolies and one buck and one doe for thriantas.
There were only 14 kids and 28 rabbits! But here are my winnings:
I obvously got BOB and BOS with my woolies and thriantas. lol I was the only one!

New Cages

FINALLY. My dad went to my friends house and picked up this big 6 hole hutch type thing. lol My friends' dad built it, but she doesn't have rabbits anymore so he said we could have it. The separate compartments are really big, so they will be perfect for the thriantas and growing out litters.

I'm excited! I'm sure I will have pictures to share later of all the bunnies in their houses. lol Vicky will be happy that she isn't cramed in that small cage with her babies. These cages couldn't have come at a better time. =) Woot!

I've Been Tricked!

I checked on my JW kits today. They are 5 days old now! All of them look really good. I'm so proud of Kira, as this is her very first litter. BUT I have been tricked! lol I thought that 4 were chestnuts and 1 was opal/squrriel...but I kept overlooking two of the kits. So in reality there are 3 chestnuts, 1 black and 1 that I am sure is just blue. I was looking for a blue buck forever, so now maybe this little baby will be my blue buck. lol

Other than that, not much has been happening. My thrianta babies are a little over 3 weeks old now. All 6 of them are doing great. They are such cuties and have lovely personalities. lol I love playing with them and watching them eat their timmy hay. XD Vicky is being a fantastic mother to these guys as well. I can't wait to see how my first litter of thriantas turn out!

I'll be posting more pictures of the woolies once they are a little older. ;) So get excited. lol

Well, Victoria has been carrying hay around her cage. =P I put her nestbox in yesterday and she was digging to China. lol She has been stretching out and just chillin' the last few days next to the nestbox. She didn't eat much of her pellets today, but she was munching away on the handfull of timothy hay I put in there. So I am hoping she has a nice batch of babies soon. She is due in a few days! I'm excited! I can't wait to see how many she has...I hope it's not to many... lol I want these babies, but I don't want 10 of them! The weather has been nice in the day, but raining at night, so I hope that the weather will be nice for her and the babies until they get some fuzz to keep them from getting chilled.

Hulstlanders

If I knew I could get these guys, then I would forget about the other three breeds I was contemplating. I want some Hulstlanders! From what I know (back in 2003 I believe) master importer, Bob Whitman, imported some Hulstlanders to the USA. But as we all know, he passed away recently... so I don't know where these little precious bunnies ended up. I had no idea they even got over here. I was doing a bit of searching and somehow found this out.

Anyway, I just love these little rabbits and I wish I could get my hands on some...anybody know where they all went off too? I am going to start saving some money now and import my own if I never do find them here. lol I just love the chunky head on the one in that picture!

Wooly Litters

A wall post on facebook and then a message on our voicemail at home, got me to start thinking about breeding the woolies. Cathie Usakowski asked me if I had any wooly babies yet and then somebody else called to see if I had any does for sale...right now I only have 2 blacks, one buck and one doe, and both are pet quality.

So...I have finally decided on a pair for woolies! Kira (black) and Peak (chestnut) will be my first wooly breeding for 2010. Pictures of them are on my site. Kira is due on April 30th, which just happens to be my sisters' birthday (twins). They will be 24 this year. =P So it's like a birthday present to them. lol

In August I will be breeding Milky Way and Chance (chestnut x broken chestnut). That's all I know for sure now... so we'll see what happens.

Why do they have to be so cool?

Why do rabbits have to be so cool? I just like them way to much...I have been trying to decide on a 3rd breed for quite a while now and it's just so hard. At first it was between mini satins and mini lops. It stayed that way for quite a while...but then I started thinking mini lop and polish....then it was mini lop, polish, dwarf hotot. NOW I pushed out the dwarf hotot and I am stuck again with mini satins, mini lops and polish.

I'm going insane... honestly, I have almost a year to figure it out. I am just so impatient in thought making though. lol I like to have everything set up in my head before I do anything...no sudden movements! But here I am going crazy in my thought process.

Mini Satins were something that first came to mind when I was contmeplating a 3rd breed. I really like the satins, but they are just way to big. So how convenient is it that they make a mini satin with a max weight of only 4 3/4 pounds? I thought that was pretty darn spiffy. With these guys though, I don't know the amount of competition there is in Michigan. I think they could make good pets as long as they aren't white. I know that isn't the most popular color for pet rabbits. lol They do come in some nice colors though. Siamese, red, copper, chinchilla, black, opal, himi, chocolate, white, black otter and broken. So there is a nice simple array of colors, which I really like.

Mini Lops are sweet. Big chunky head and floppy ears that I love. BUT they have a max weight of 6 1/2 pounds and have pretty big litters. Plus I already have a 6 pound max breed and they have pretty decient sized litters usually too. Will I have the space? I also have to think about the pet market. I deffinatly won't be able to keep 8 juniors around if a doe has a large litter. So would they sell as good pets? Also they come in every color imagineable...which is awesome, but I might get in trouble...I like colors to much.

Polish are tiny little rabbits. Only a little bit bigger than netherland dwarfs. They have a max weight of 3 1/2 pounds. I think that some are pretty cute, but there isn't to much that I think is way special about this breed. I find myself liking the body type on them. They are small and should do really well in the pet market. They come in a small array of colors as well. Black, blue, broken, chocolate, REW and BEW. No way I can get in trouble there. =P Plus most of the colors can be easily mixed and matched for breeding. They have small litters. I hear that 2 or 3 is pretty common for them. That's cool, I won't need a ton of space for these guys then. Are they to boring looking though?

Cleaning, Palpating and Such

Well, I palpated Victoria on day 11 and then again, yesterday, at day 14. I am pretty sure I felt something. lol This was probably only the second or third time I have ever tried it. So I am hoping that she will have my first litter of Thriantas on April 8th! Her personality has changed dramaticaly. When I got them all in September, she was very grouchy and didn't like being picked up so much. She would tense up when I tried to pet her in her cage. A week after I bred her, I really started to notice a change in her personality. She lets me pick her up with barely any troubles and she stayed really still when I was trying to palpate her. Maybe it's a good sign. lol

I cleaned out a few cages yesterday too, so the bunnies are happy! I had to dig around or some old cages. The all have pans and are on the ground. XD They have a roof and I covered the cages with a big towl to keep the sun from beating on them. They seem very happy. Peak got a new cage on the ground because I want to make sure he doesn't bite anyone else... So now my quarentine bunnies (Rosalind and Percy) got their cages back. Rosalind has a new junior buck as her neighbor. A non-biter. =P

We picked up some Purina rabbit feed too! Yay! So I am hoping that my rabbits do better on it. Our next show is at the end of May I believe. So it gives them plenty of time to get used to it.

I sold 3 rabbits there! Misty came to pick up her mini rex and wooly. I also finally sold my sweet little Maggie. =( I'm going miss her! But she will be loved, so that makes me feel a little better about selling her. So now I have a bit of room to rearrange the bunnies and get them in a better order.

It was a very small class of Thriantas. Only 4 were there. But I ended up getting BOB and BOS, so I'm happy. lol Yay for Vicky and Fred! I got 2 very colorful ribbons. =)

I was very entertained by Parker and Garret Thompson. lol Very funny boys. Can't wait to see them again at convention. lol I got to meet an online buddy named Cassidy Anlas (Hoppy Days Rabbitry) and talked a bit with Steph (Step Up Mini Rex). I also got to chat with Jessica from Three Little Ladies again. Always a pleasure. She's very helpful. ;)

I did pretty well for only bringing 4 rabbits to show. lol
I only brought one wooly to show. XD She got first out of the self does -out of 3- (Breezy's Kira)
My thrianta doe (A/L Wades Victoria) got BOB out off 11! My buck was so close...he got 2nd out of the 5 bucks. So, so close! I need to find another buck and doe for breeding, but I will have to wait until after I get my woolies settled.

I also got a BOB for my peruvian cavy, but we sold her to a friend afterwards. lol
My little 4-H friend Tyler did really great with his Lionheads. He got BOG, BOSG and BOS.

I got a new little buck from Furry Treasures Rabbitry! This is Peak! So sweet and cute! I can't wait to get him a little girly friend. lol

So...I recently found that I have developed a love for...of all things...mini lops. Yes, you saw that for real. I would love to work with these colors mostly:

SELF: chocolate, black, blue

AGOUTI: chestnut, chinchilla (black, chocolate, blue), opal

Definatly with brokens in any of these ones. =) I love broken ML's.

Well that's all folks. Just my brain wandering...mind you this won't be for at least until next year. XD

Over Again...

Well...I am starting over. lol I am selling a lot of my woolies and starting over with just a few colors (Self & AOV). I am hoping to start agoutis here again soon though! I have talked to a few people and I'm probably going to be able to purchase some at the MSRBA convention this March. =)

I can't go to the Jan. 30th State 4-H show because my school is having an auction to raise funds and my mom prefers me to be here for it. =( I am deffinatly going to be at the one in Farwell on Feb. 13th though and we also are thinking about going to the one on Mt. Plesant Feb. 27th.

I am going to be selling woolies at both shows! It will probably be something like "MUST GO! TAKE YOUR PICK! $20 each!" lol

XD I really have to sell these guys...know anybody who wants a pet??? Tell them to contact me at that show or tell them to email me if they are willing to drive to my place to pick one up.

A New Edition!!!

Merry Christmas to me! My mom and dad gifted me this adorable saddle-less Lionhead!!! She is so adorable! I think I have decided to name her Coraline... "Nose" for short! lol All you see when you look at her head on is her nose! =P

I might breed her in the spring time to my her buck (Jersey Wooly - Rose Meadow's Destin). The worst that could happen is pet quality...and I have a feeling they would sell like hotcakes! lol Anyway, enjoy some pictures of my little Nose. Happy Day - A Nice Sale

Like 4 days ago the nurse that comes to our house to help with my grandma called and said that another one of her clients lived with her mother and had a lot of seizures. She said she could have up to 30 a day! She said that they used to have a rabbit, but it died a while back and the daughter REALLY wanted another one. So it was going to be a kind of therapy rabbit.

They all came over yesterday and I brought in all my baby woolies and a couple other odds and ends. She changed her mind like 10 times, but finally decided to get one of my little REW woolies. It was so cute because her mom said that she had picked out a name for the rabbit like 3 months ago. lol

I told her that I only wanted $20 for her, but she was so happy and greatful that she gave me $30 instead. The mom even started to cry when she left. I was so happy that I could help them and I even got a little $10 bonus. lol
I hope I keep on getting nice people like this buying pets!

PRAISE THE LORD, FOR HE IS GOOD!!!

Ok...it's not really that exciting...ok well I'm excited! lol

My dad FINALLY got the frame for a new building for my rabbits! YES! YES! YES! He works for BreitBurn Energy and this little building had an oil pump or something in it...and it burned down! My dad took like 2 months to ask his bosses...but he finally got permision to take the frame for the walls and roof. I am pretty happy because usually my rabbits are all outside in the winter...so sometimes they freeze. =( Now they will be safe from the harsh, freezing wind! Plus, the woolies will be less matted because the air won't be as moist when it rains (which it does a lot of here).

I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it... =P

Well, my raving is over now. Continue on with your lives. =)

Convention Stuff

Some random Michigan news from the recent ARBA convention in San Diego (I didn't get to go, so I went around the web and found out this stuff! lol):

1. Tiffany McCord, Jessica Usukowski, McKenna Lynch and Miranda Tolsma were 3rd place team for the Youth Judging contest. Congrats!

2. Miranda also won the intermediate judgin class and placed first runner up in the duchess contest.

3. The orange Jersey Wooly passed its 2nd showing! Yay! I'm excited and I will deffinatly get my hands on some when they finally pass the 3rd one!

Well...one of my Thriantas just died today. :( It was big ol' Jay. I feel bad that I didn't notice it sooner. He tummy was all blown up. I think it was something to do with his GI tract.

I only have one buck and two does now. I need another buck because Lucy and Fred are siblings so I only have one breeding pair now. I'll miss him...

Rest in peace sweetie pie.

It's Cold...

Well, it's becoming very chilli outside...the wind is picking up. My woolies are matting because of all the moisture in the air. lol I really need a barn...

My little wooly litter is coming along nicely. They're cute little buggers. :) I still have a few pet quality rabbits that I really have to get rid of (on our For Sale page!). There is a few different breeds.

School is still keeping me really busy. I hate it. I want time to do other non-educational things. lol Besides school, I have been working with my pomeranian, Rusty, at a 4-H dog handling/agility class. He has made a ton of improvement! I just need him to let go of his stubborn ways. :)

I can't wait until spring!!!! I want to breed my Thriantas so bad! I also plan on breeding Frost back to Destin and Kira to Blue (my blue tort). I really want some shaded woolies right now.

I am still looking for a chestnut wooly doe, if you know anybody with one! :)

Sales Update

School is keeping very busy! I hate that I can't give the bunnies attention. :(

I finally sold Harper today. :) He went to a really nice family. I am also hopefully selling Kira to a new kid in our 4-H group. I also have a buyer for my chocolate mini rex, Brownie. So I am glad that I can get them all out of these crappy cages and not have to clean them every single day.

The Percy X Brandy babies are doing good. They are so cute! I probably have a few potential buyers already for them too. So wish me luck of more future sales.

Downsizing

Yep. We are getting rid of quite a few woolies and other bunnies. Look at our for sale page on the site (http://www.freewebs.com/nbrabbitry/forsale.htm). We have lots of bucks...most are pets, but we do have a buck for sale that is showable (Breezy's Onyx). He has a litter mate (Breezy's Leo) that has a slight deformity of his 'man area' which you can read about on the page. I also have yet another young buck (Breezy's Harper) that is a sweetie and needs a new pet home. He has a sister named Maggie that is a black otter that needs to be sold as a pet as well. We also are selling my orange Netherland (Savvy) with 3 legs for $30. We even have two chocolate mini rex boys that need pet homes.

THEY NEED TO GO QUICK OR THEY ARE ALL BEING SOLD TO FEED STORE BESIDES ONYX & SAVVY.

We are going to be breeding self, pointed white and possibly the occasional shaded. We are also going to get a hold of a chestnut or chinchilla to start our agoutis up again. :) So much work...bleh.

I got my Thriantas!!! :-D She ended up giving me 4 instead of 3 and a 4 hole carrier for free! The 4th rabbit was worth $100 and she has 15 legs. She said I could have her and the carrier as a birthday gift. They are so cute! So now I have 2 breeding pairs. Victoria and Fred and Lucy and Jay. :)

Percy X Brand New

Well, I bred Percy and Brandy again today. :) Babies are expected on Sept. 30th. They have had blacks, siamese sables and a REW before. So I am not sure what will come out of this one. I am hoping for another REW and some siamese sables. I need some great brood does and they gave me the REW Emo and she is lovely. :) So I hope they have some more nice girlies for me!

Well I have sold 2 woolies and I have $40 to go towards my Thriantas. I need about $100 though. lol I have Alexis Wade from Evart holding a trio for me at the moment. I emailed her about the status on that.

I have one more doe for sale (Maggie) for $20. I think a lady that bought a mini rex from me has a friend that would like her. So we'll see hhhmmmm?

Oh, and I didn't win anything at fair besides my project book getting best in show, but that really did make me happy. :) I got all firsts on quality of my bunnies though. So I think I will be getting like $30 for my premiums. That will help for my Thriantas too.

Well, I have tried to breed two days in a row...I got nothing. One doe runs around the cage like crazy...and when I try to help him out he moves away because I am touching her. The second buck just sits there. The doe is like 'la la la la' and he doesn't do anything.

WHY?!?!?!

I want blues and blue torts!!!! I want my pointed whites!!!!

I will keep trying for a while more, I guess....
